Linda Penn is the owner and Managing Director of Lowes Menswear - one of the country’s largest and most iconic retailers. She is a highly-regarded philanthropist, has raised 3 children and recently welcomed her second grandchild. A dynamo director, this female powerhouse sits down with her eldest son Josh, Belinda’s co-director, to impart her well-earned wisdom and values to all generations of women and fellow businesswomen.
Tell us about your role and day to day life?
I am the co-owner and Managing Director of Lowes Menswear, an iconic Australian retailer. I work full-time and oversee the entire operation of the business which includes over 190 stores as well as online and 1900+ staff all over Australia.
Outside of business and family what are you most passionate about?
The community and my charitable work are my biggest pursuits - I'm particularly interested in the work of Children's Medical Research Institute, Beanies for Brain Cancer, a Start in Life for disadvantaged school children.
I also am a true believer to keep your health and wellbeing paramount. I exercise 7 days a week, which includes running and strength training.
What has motherhood taught you & what strength or quality did you discover you had from raising 3 children?
To be tolerant and patient, selfless and always accepting.
For working mothers, what advice can you give?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Look after yourself from a health and mental wellbeing perspective. Be the boss or work for someone who is understanding that you have children. Family should always come first.
Your most rewarding moment of being a mother?
Watching my children grow into wonderful human beings.
A money can’t buy object or experience you would like for Mother’s Day is?
A cuddle with my recently born granddaughter, Blake.
Do you have any style or fashion rules to live by?
I'm influenced (told) by my son Josh to be confident in what I wear. I like to take risks and enjoy dressing up as I believe that fashion is a form of self expression.
What do you come to Belinda for? Anything currently on your wish list?
I love popping into Belinda as a form of therapy and relaxation. I truly enjoy the shopping experience and take inspiration from the edit of international designers. I'm currently coveting Alexander McQueen's Pre-Fall 21 collection, specifically the leather pieces. I have added a few items to my Pre-Order basket.
The last time you dressed up, where did you go and what did you wear?
I went on a date night with my husband and wore a Bottega Veneta white shirt and leather skirt, with an Alexander McQueen double strap belt, completed with Bottega Veneta's signature heels.
